Biography
Karim Amer is an award-winning filmmaker. His last film, The Square (AL MIDAN), was nominated for an Academy Award in 2014–the first nomination for NETFLIX–and won three Emmys (2014) for Directing, Cinematography, and Editing. The Square was the first film to win the Audience Award at both the Sundance Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival, and had the highest funds raised on KICKSTARTER for any foreign language film in history. The film was viewed in over 50 film festivals worldwide and won the 2014 IDA Award, DGA Award, Berlinale’s Amnesty International Award, and numerous others.
Karim also produced Rafea: Solar Mama, a feature documentary that received the 2012 NYC DOC Special Jury Prize and Audience Award, and was an Official Selection at the 2013 Human Rights Watch Film Festival, among others.
Karim is currently at work on multiple feature and episodic series documentary projects.
